Introduction

At St Joseph’s everyone is treated with respect.

Students need an environment that supports their learning, their personal growth and positive self-esteem.

Successful learning is, to a large extent, dependent on the quality of the learning environment and it is the human relationships in the school that most impact on the quality of this environment. Thus at St Joseph’s we strive to:

  • Work proactively to build positive relationships.
  • Support the teaching of social skills.
  • Provide an environment that is safe and secure.
  • Ensure everyone, students, parents, teachers and visitors are treated with respect.
  • Use co-operative and restorative approaches to resolving conflict.

Student Leadership

In supporting and developing each person’s potential in leadership, we provide students with opportunities to witness and build leadership qualities.

Leadership is encouraged and demonstrated throughout our school. Students can be leaders in the classroom, through their actions in the playground, through their support of others, or their involvement in academic, sporting, cultural or local community events.

All Year 6 students are eligible to nominate as a candidate for School Captain or House Captain. All candidates prepare and deliver a presentation highlighting their leadership qualities. Student Leaders are elected by their peers.

School and House captains play an active role in our school community acting as ambassadors and undertaking added responsibilities such as school duties.

Student Behaviour

At St Joseph’s Primary School, we work hard to support Victorian Child Safety Standards, by explicitly teaching and reinforcing positive school wide expectations throughout the school year.  These expectations have been developed to ensure that we have a common, inclusive, safe and orderly environment to learn and grow with.
